The Grand Finale of this year's Southwest Ohio Indoor Time Trial Series lived up to its name!! Cyclist from all over the area packed into Neo Limits Fitness on Feb 28 for an outstanding day of racing against some really tough competition. We had 98 people register and 85 who raced. Either way it was the all time record for this event!!

You can view the results online at: http://w8ds.com/  You can sort the results by gender, age group, by date or overall.

Pictures taken during the last Sunday's event and the entire series are posted in the photo gallery at: http://picasaweb.google.com/paul4cycling

I was really impressed with the strong showing by all the junior riders racing in Sunday's event. It was a real treat to have the Lionhearts Junior Cycling Team show up with eleven riders to take on this difficult course. And according to their coach they almost all had personal best times for this course. In the girls ages 10-14 Category it was Naomi Tellez with the fastest time of the day and her personal best for the series. Naomi knocked 13 seconds off her previous best with her time of 20:58. That was awesome Naomi!! Rachel Dobrozsi and McKenzie Green had outstanding times with 23:24 and 25:27 respectively. Our youngest participant, nine year old Madelein Green showed how tough she is and finished with the entire room cheering her on!! Well done girls!!!

For the junior boys in the 15-18 Category Kipp Silber and Nathan Denton continued their friendly battle for the best time. Today it was Kipp who turned in a personal best of 16:52 to take the honors. Nathan was just seconds behind with his time of 17:13. Sam Dobrozsi also had an excellent time of 17:32. In the Junior Boys 10-14 Category it was Zachary Ross who took top honors with a time of 20:23. He was followed by Spencer Petrov at 21:51 and Andrew Rademacher at 22:25. Other strong finishes were posted by Zane Ash 25:17, Nathan Ross 25:23, Robert Prewitt 25:52, and Michael Gruenwald 26:09. Great riding guys!!

Congratulations to all the juniors for their outstanding performances!!

Who was the fastest in the fixed gear category? That would be Don Bill!! Don rode himself to a personal best with his time of 17:19!! Attaboy Don!!

There were some really strong rides in the women’s field!! The fastest time was Elaine Schaaf who averaged 22.23 mph to post a time of 16:44. Nice work Elaine!! On her first try at this event Mandy Gawalek averaged 20.49 mph and finished at 18:09. Melissa Petrov showed excellent form and finished at 18:32. Glenda Hickey showed great improvement! She finished at 20:33 which was over a minute and ten seconds faster than her previous time. Way to go ladies!!

In the men’s field there were a number of really fast times!! The top honor goes to Adam Kruse, who powered in with a time of 14:58! It took an average speed of 24.85 mph to ride the course in under 15 minutes, a feat accomplished by only three people this season!! Keep up the great work Adam!! Then we had eleven men ride the course in under 16 minutes which takes an average speed faster than 23.26 mph. The best times in that group were Burgess Gow and Eric Limkemann, who both finished at 15:02. Shayne Dillinger demonstrated his consistent strong riding with a time of 15:04. Others who finished in this elite group were Shane Brenner, Craig Carroll, Dan Waite, Jeff Coudron, Bo Sherman, Corey Green, Ryan Fogle, and Matt Ungerleider. Very impressive guys!! Keep it up!!

I can't thank all you great volunteers enough for the time and effort you put in to make this event so successful. When we get a huge turnout like last Sunday it really keeps the crew hopping to get seven bikes unhooked and seven more hooked up and calibrated and ready to race in the span of about 15 minutes. Everybody from set-up, to sign-in, to pit crew, to data entry, to photography and clean-up made this one of the most professionally run events ever. Please join me in thanking Dan Waite, Jeanette Shires, Stephanie Hyatt, David Hyatt, Karin Reed, Mitzi Silber, Angie Bill, Don Bill, Jeff Waller, Ted Schutzbank, Vicky Williams, Dale Griggs, Bruce Skillings, David Benner, Linda Edwards, Chris Gustin, Kipp Silber, Craig Silber, Kristin Popio, Lorna Waters-Tellez, Naomi Tellez, Karen Myers, Bob Myers, Matt Evans, Gary Hickey, Joey Spano, Rick Neal, Scott Lanzer, Jeff Denton, Elaine Schaaf, Ryan Fogle, Jeff Bork, Nancy Henderson, Melissa Corliss and others. This event simply would not be possible without dedicated, hard working volunteers like these people. I really appreciate what they have done and I hope you will give them your thanks too!

Special thanks to Linda Edwards who donated all the income from her chair massages to the JDRF cause. Thank you so much Linda for everything you’ve done to support this cause!!

Oh yes!! Scott Lanzer was the lucky winner of the 50/50 raffle and he won $70! Congratulations Scott.

Please help me thank our wonderful sponsors including Neo Limits Fitness, Roll, Colavita Ohio Cycling Club, Rudy Project, K&G Bike Centers, Cannondale, and Hot Head Burritos. We really appreciate everything they have done to make this event enjoyable for the participants and successful for the JDRF.
